Here at Person Communications, we always try to keep up with the current social media trends and functions, so when we saw Snapchat’s new feature we just couldn’t keep silent.

The formula is very simple: you share your current location that your friends can instantly see on their app. Of course the fun part is that you can actually look at what strangers are doing. This aspect is what we found most interesting. We love to watch people check in from sandy beaches and we even found a drug-lair in downtown Los Angeles, although this feed disappeared pretty quickly.

You could say ‘Wait. This is exactly the same thing as Foursquare (now known as Swarm)’ and you wouldn’t be completely wrong, but if you look more closely you can see how Snap Map is better.

To better understand this we have to go back in time a little to the era when location based apps were all the rage in the marketing world. But interest died down when content based apps like Instagram and Snapchat emerged. To keep up Foursquare enabled people to add content to their posts, but these can only be static images. And then Snapchat upped the game with Snap Map, which allows users to share their location with their friends in creative ways via Interactive Stories.
